Cancer irradiation systems installed in Ethiopia for the first time
For the first time, a system designed to provide radiation in treating gynecological tumors with brachytherapy sources has been installed in a hospital in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, as part of a United Nations aid program for expanding healthcare in Africa. Brachytherapy involves miniaturized, wire-guided radiation sources placed at the site of the tumor, which are especially effective in treating cervical cancer.
